Solvent

Solvent used to dissolve the paint. In water based paints, main solvent is a water . While in solvent based paints can include some solvent mixture(Thinner) derived from petroleum, such as alcohol, ether, ester, and others. Solvent is used to assist the formation of film at the time of drying paint. In water based paints sometimes using a co-solvent, like butyl cellosove. Co-Solvent serves to reduce MMFT(Minimum Film Formation Temperature). With the Co-Solvent, paint can form a perfect film.

Use of solvents can also to set the speed of the paint dry. The more solvent that evaporates slower then the paint will dry out more slowly too. With the right combination of solvent can get the paint to suit the needs of consumers. Because most of the solvent derived from petroleum, the price of solvent is very dependent on oil prices. With the state of oil prices increasingly rise so any paint manufacturers will increasingly seek a combination of solvent to make a thinner more effective and efficient.
