Solvent Based Paint

The increase in oil prices did not significantly affect the price of water based paint. While the solvent based paint is a major factor. Rising oil prices led to rising prices of solvent which is the main ingredient from solvent based paint. With the rising price of paint, the higher the price of furniture. People will increasingly look for cheaper solutions but with enough quality. Although solvent based paint so many have left and switch to water based paint, but still much furniture company preferred using solvent based paint.

So what is the meaning of solvent based paint? Why is still much to like? Isn't solvent is toxic? Solvent based paint is paint that dissolve using solvent. Solvent based have better endurance if compare with one component water based paint. Solvent based paint also has a better clarity and higher gloss than water based paint(using  emulsion resin/binder). With this widely excess, solvent based paint still used by  furniture company. As for the level of volatile organic compound(VOC) contained in the solvent based paints some countries already have rules so that the solvent based paint is more environmentally friendly and more non toxic.

The types of solvent based paint are such as Melamine, Teak Oil, nitrocellulose and Poly Urethane. Melamine and Poly Urethane(PU) are two component solvent based paints. Generate paint hard and very strong. Currently in some countries do not use melamine anymore because of the drying paint, have formaldehyde emissions that are toxic. So melamine can't be used for children furniture and baby crib.
The most widely used Solvent based paint is nitrocellulose. Although only be used in interior but has good results and the clarity is excellent. Nitrocellulose paint are widely used in the manufacture of antique furniture or ASOF(American Style of Finishing).
